Chris Beard the Vice President of Building Products Research at John Burns Research and Consulting presents his outlook on the remodeling industry. At an event at at GlassBuild America in Orlando, his advice is a steading tone across the industry. In his opening remarks he acknowledges that this year presented challenges and was, ‘bumpy.’
Despite this and factors of consumer confidence and housing affordability, he expects household formation to increase. He cites those in the 70+ age group who are looking to age in place. This is complemented by those in the 25-54 age range, who are in their prime years for forming their own families. However, the downside to this is that new construction is falling behind this figure. With only an estimated 1.2 million new households that will form annually through 2029.
He shifted towards optimism for the remodeling industry going into 2026. Beard predicts homeowners will start tapping into their high levels of home equity, which is already starting to take place. He supported this by expecting monetary and geopolitical tensions to stabilize.
“Optimism is ever-blooming in this industry,” said Beard. He noted that survey respondents expecting a 5.4% full-year revenue increase next year.
